Hexafluorosilicates of cobalt(II) complexes with dimethylsulfoxide and dimethylformamide

New double complexes [Co(DMSO)₆][SiF₆] ? 2H₂O (I) and [Co(DMF)₃(H₂O)₃][SiF₆] ? DMF (II) have been synthesized and studied by IR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Crystals of complex I belong to the tetragonal symmetry system, space group R3?, Z = 3, a = 11.8232(3) Å, c = 18.4699(5) Å, V = 2235.97(10) ų, ρ_calc = 1.573 g/cm³. Crystals of complex II are triclinic, space group P1?, Z = 2, a = 8.6264(4) Å, b = 10.1419(4) Å, c = 13.9657(6) Å, α = 100.847(2)°, β = 98.549(2)°, γ = 93.479(2)°, V = 1181.71(9) ų, ρ_calc = 1.539 g/cm³.     

Synthesis of Fe<Subscript>3</Subscript>O<Subscript>4</Subscript>@Au core–shell nanoparticles

A new two-step synthesis of Fe₃O₄@Au core–shell nanoparticles stabilized in polyethylene glycol is described. The nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, UV and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Fe₃O₄@Au nanoparticles featured both optical properties (they featured a plasmon resonance band) and magnetic properties (they responded to an external magnetic field), typical of individual gold and magnetite nanoparticles, respectively.     

Complex-forming and ion-selective properties of bis(2-diphenylphosphorylalkyl)phenyl ethers of ethylene glycols. Crystal structures of cadmium complexes

New complexes of cadmium iodide with 1,3-bis[2-(diphenylphosphoryl)phenoxy]propane [CdL⁰I₂], 1,2-bis[2-(diphenylphosphorylethyl)phenoxy]ethane [CdL^{1, 2}I₂], and 1,8-bis[2-(diphenylphosphorylethyl) phenoxy]-3,6-dioxaoctane [CdL^{3, 2}I₂] are synthesized and their IR spectra and crystal structures are studied. Electroanalytical characteristics of membranes of ion-selective electrodes based on L⁰, L^{1, 2}, L^{3, 2}, and known crown ethers are compared for cations of alkali, alkaline-earth, and transition metals. Ligand L^{3, 2} is the first podand with terminal diphenylphosphoryl fragments to exhibit selectivity with respect to the cadmium cation.     

Phase equilibria in the Cu–Cu<Subscript>2</Subscript>Se–As system

Phase equilibria in the Cu–Cu₂Se–As were investigated by differential thermal analysis and X-ray powder diffraction analysis. Informative plots describing this system were constructed, viz., the polythermal sections Cu_0.667Se_0.333–As, Cu_0.667Se_0.333–Cu_0.735As_0.265, and Cu_0.8Se_0.2–As, the isothermal section of the phase diagram at 300 K, and the projection of the liquidus surface. The obtained results differ from the published data in length of fields of primary crystallization of phases and in coordinates of a number of invariant equilibrium points.     

SiO<Subscript>2</Subscript> and TiO<Subscript>2</Subscript> nanoparticles in Aerosol OT reverse microemulsions: Synthesis and characterization

Stable SiO₂ and TiO₂ organosols were prepared by hydrolyzing tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) in the presence of 6–12 M NH₃ and titanium(IV) isopropylate (TTIP) in reverse microemulsions of 0.12–0.25 M bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (Aerosol OT, AOT) in n-decane with the aqueous pseudophase content of 2–3 vol %, 0.018–0.090 M TEOS, and 0.15–0.55 vol %, 0.003–0.025 M TTIP. The degree of hydrolysis was monitored by IR spectroscopy (for TEOS) and spectrophotometry (for TTIP). Oxide nanoparticles were characterized by photon-correlation spectroscopy (PCS) (D _h = 8–100 nm) and laser electrophoresis (ζ-potential = 7.4–11.6 mV). The occurrence of surface potential made it possible to separate the oxides from the excess of surfactant by nonaqueous electrophoresis and to determine particle sizes (7–40 nm) by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM).     

Reaction of the [B<Subscript>10</Subscript>H<Subscript>9</Subscript>O<Subscript>2</Subscript>C<Subscript>4</Subscript>H<Subscript>8</Subscript>]<Superscript>–</Superscript> anion with C-nucleophiles

The reactions of 1,4-dioxane-substituted closo-decaborate anion ([B₁₀H₉O₂C₄H₈]^–) with metal acetylenides, diethyl malonate, ethyl acetoacetate, triethyl orthoformate, acetylacetone, and malonodinitrile were studied. The reactions were shown to be accompanied with substituent ring opening and attachment of the corresponding pendant functional group. The obtained compounds were characterized by various physicochemical methods (IR and polynuclear NMR spectroscopy, ESI mass spectrometry).     

Copper(II), nickel(II), and zinc(II) complexes with <Emphasis Type="Italic">o</Emphasis>-tozylaminobenzaldehyde 4,6-dimethylpyrimidyl hydrazone

o-Tosylaminobenzaldehyde dimethylpyrimidyl hydrazone and its copper(II), nickel(II), and zinc(II) complexesare synthesized and studied. According to the X-ray diffraction data, the zinc(II) complex has the structure of a tetragonal pyramid with the N₃O donor ligand environment. According to EPR and magnetochemistry data, the copper(II) complex has a similar structure of the chelate core. In the nickel(II) complex, the solvent molecule completes the coordination core to an octahedron.     

Synthesis,structure, and optical properties of iridium(III) complex with 1-benzyl-2-phenylbenzimidazole and 4,4'-dicarboxy-2,2'-bipyridyne

A new cyclometalated iridium(III) complex [Ir(L)₂(Hdcbpy)] (1) has been synthesized, where L is 1-benzyl-2-phenylbenzimidazole and Hdcbpy is monoprotonated 4,4′-dicarboxy-2,2′-bipyridine. The structure of complex 1 has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The optical properties of complex 1 have been studied, and the quantum yield of luminescence has been measured.     

Modeling of the composition of the eutonic solution in the NaCl–AlCl<Subscript>3</Subscript>−SrCl<Subscript>2</Subscript>–HCl–H<Subscript>2</Subscript>O system at 25°С and its experimental confirmation

The solubility was studied in the system NaCl–AlCl₃?SrCl₂–HCl–H₂O of the eutonic type at 25°C in the section 28 wt % HCl. It was determined that it is possible to derive equations of the solubility surface of crystallizing salts and to calculate the composition of the eutonic solution.     

Study of lithium complexes with benzo-15-crown-5 ether by X-ray diffraction and IR spectroscopy

The complex formation of lithium with benzo-15-crown-5 (B15C5) was investigated. The complexes LiB15C5H₂OX, where X = Cl^? (1), I^? (2), (3), (5), and LiBF₄B15C5 (4) were synthesized and studied by IR spectroscopy. Complexes 1–4 were examined by X-ray diffraction. According to IR spectroscopy data, the crown ether conformation changes upon dissolution. The interaction of the extracted complex with the solvent was identified.
